Chidambaram reviews J&K security situation (22-06-11)

The overall security situation in Jammu and Kashmir was on Tuesday reviewed by Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram, who also took stock of the arrangements for the annual Amarnath pilgrimage.
Before winding up his two-day visit to the state, Mr. Chidambaram chaired a high-level meeting here in the presence of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and discussed in detail the prevailing situation.
Ahead of the commencement of the annual Amarnath pilgrimage, the Home Minister closely scrutinized the security arrangements for the yatra beginning June 29, an official spokesman said.
Mr. Chidambaram congratulated the Chief Minister for holding the panchayati elections in a peaceful and fair manner, he said.
Later, Mr. Chidambaram flew to Pahalgam in south Kashmir and reviewed the security situation at a meeting attended among others by Deputy Commissioners and Senior Superintendents of Police of Anantnag, Kulgam, Pulwama and Shopian districts. Pahalgam serves as the base camp for the annual Amarnath pilgrimage
